Unsightly spots, lumps and bumps that appear a few days after shaving or waxing are usually caused by ingrowing hairs.
These occur when a strong hair curls back on itself and fails to reach the follicle (pore) opening. Sebum (or oil) builds up around the hair and causes a plug under the skin. It is when this plug becomes infected that the area swells up and can look angry and sore.
